How to be a "starterer" and finisher.....

What a difference a year makes! I've totally missed writing-and shame on me, for yet again, not following through on my own personal efforts.

But, I typically find myself in the position of going really hard at whatever the task is and slowly "falling off the wagon" as life gets in the way. I swear, I totally need to project manage my own life, as I have no structure. OK, so enough with self-bashing, who am I kidding, I'm still fabulous! LOL!

As I drove my daughter to cheer practice this morning, my mind started to wander and the thought came to me, why is so hard for me to finish what I start?? And then EUREKA, i remembered that I stubbled upon an article a few weeks ago on this very topic and since my brain never has time to slow down, I bookmarked page-so, I could, you know-(ha ha ha) go back and read it - yea, right! lol ...

Well, today, as I sat at the dance studio, I surfed the worldwide web and I managed to start 3 mental projects - and I found that my ADHD was totally getting out of hand. I'm actually laughing so hard at myself, because I:

1. Started an Application to university
2. Started purchasing airline tickets to STL for thanksgiving
3. Started looking up courses to learn more about UX/UI Design (User Experience/Interface)

NONE OF WHICH DID I ACTUALLY EXECUTE! WTH! What's wrong with me? Do I seriously have ADHD?

See, now I totally forgot that I was telling you about the article that I found (DAMN ADHD)
Ok, so the article....The first line spoke volumes and was actually in all caps-since clearly it was very important or I needed to be hollered at..
"NEVER FINISHING WHAT YOU START IS MORE THAN A BAD HABIT—IT STEMS FROM FEARS AND HESITATIONS. HERE'S HOW TO GET PAST THE PROCRASTINATOR'S PARALYSIS."

And then it hit me! Like a freaking freight train....I am the biggest procrastinator EVER!

How can I turn the procrastination into a more proactive behaviour that will achieve results?

Here are a few salient points that seemed to be very helpful are as follows (Thanks Jane Porter, Fast Company)

  • Quit getting stuck on the big picture.
  • Working under pressure doesn’t actually produce better results.
  • Stop ruminating over the negatives.

So, here's to me keeping up with myself and doing better!

Hello September....I think I'm in LOVE!!

I LOVE September-and what she brings...Fall/Autumn...Although, by far, summer is my ultimate FAV season of the year, the runner up is definitely Fall. With each season change, I see an opportunity to reinvent myself. It's a chance to do something you've never done before, reach a new goal or wear a new shade a lipstick. Whatever, floats your boat; EMBRACE it and RIDE the S.S. Change!

I've been thinking a lot about change lately. Change of scenery, change of life, change of circles-you name it-I thought about it. The one thing that's always constant about me - is change! I think I may have a  new condition-and it's called-"Eccentricitis"(LOL). I'm totally OK with that...

ec·cen·tric
ikˈsentrik/
adjective
  1. 1.
(of a person or their behavior) unconventional and slightly strange.
"my favorite aunt is very eccentric"

Now, this doesn't mean to pull out those sweaters and UGG Boots, yet--Calm Down, boo-we ain't ready for that yet..(LOL)-But, Enjoy the last days of summer and start thinking about how you can change with the season.

Enjoy your Monday!!!

I NEED A VACATION...

How many times have you said those three little words? And of course, those three powerful words stem from a stressful event that has occurred in your everyday life; and the only way to feel some sort of relief is get as far a way from pressure as quickly as possible.

But, SKERRRRT (pump breaks)….Real life settles in and you realize that the only place you will be vacationing anytime soon is the island of  LA LA Land. So, you spend countless hours pricing vacations, trying to figure out which corners to cut in order to make this happen. And you realize, even if you booked a trip to an amazing relaxing island, you'll still have to come back to same hustle and bustle and nothing really changes..Because now you need a vacation from your vacation. It's a VICIOUS cycle.

Well, have no fear-I have a super amazing solution that's going to first make you want to slap me silly-but hear me out-I promise it'll be well worth the read.

DRUM ROLL PLEASE!!! A super easy way to quickly de-stress your life without even leaving your city limits is to Vacation in your own City (stay cation). Now, now-I totally get it…you want the tan lines, the roaming charges and the all-inclusive deal-trust me-I get that..but sometimes, you just need a change of scenery to recharge your batteries.

So, how do you "staycation" in your city? I thought you'd never ask:) Below you will find my top 5 ways to vacation in your city (while on a budget of course).

1. Try a new restaurant in the city - and make sure it has a patio.
So, why a Patio? Well,  outdoor dining is not only relaxing, but also gives you a change of scenery and a chance to people watch. And if it's sunny, you are getting a little Sun and your body automatically thinks he/she is on a vacation. Sometimes you have to psych your body into telling your brain you are on a vacation. Trust me it works.
Download Scoutmob: There are pretty awesome restaurants to choose from and most of them offer pretty substantial discounts.
Estimated Cost for two: under $50

2. Go to your local beach or pool.
My pool has saved my life! All I need is my headphones, a cocktail (that I made) and some good tunes and I'm good to go. Nothing like a little tan and pool time to get your mind right.
Estimated Cost for two: Free

3. Local City Tours
Most cities have some sort of Tourism and if you are like me-I work so much and I have a million other things going on-that I never get a chance to see the city I call home. So, sign up for a tour and be chauffeured around your city and take it all in. You will fall in love with home again and have a new appreciation for where you live!
Estimated Cost for two: Varies by City

4. Festivals
I love a good ole cultural festival or event. Many cities have arts and crafts festivals that I'm sure will tickle your fancy.

5. Book a Romantic Getaway in the City
If you are "boo'd" up and want to experience Romance in the city-take your date night to a chic hotel in your city and enjoy all that it has to offer. Most hotels offer spa services and other amenities that you and or your significant other may enjoy. And if you aren't boo'd up or you just need some me time-you can totally take advantage of this getaway.
Try www.airbnb.com: There are pretty inexpensive alternatives to hotel rooms and just as awesome!
Estimated Cost: $100 (min)

So, don't fret-those e-mails are still coming in-but take time for yourself and those that matter the most to you…A vacation is totally possible - and with the  proper  budget and planning-you can totally make something happen!

But, if you just have to get a way and it's not in your budget-"staycate"…I promise your pockets will thank you and so will your nerves!!

Good night!

Kandi

Wake up and Smell the…...

Coffee, you think? Welp, great guess-but I'm going a little bit grander this time..WAKE up and SMELL LIFE!

I started this blog last year in hopes that I would become this super famous blogger, sharing ideas across the globe and helping many people reach for their dreams while living on a budget..And I didn't quite achieve that goal-because I was busy living life and totally forgot all about this blog. I recently had a conversation with a good friend of mine and she tasked me with finding my voice in this blog and making it work.

Although, I am still going to identify ways to live life to the fullest while living within your means-but I will also share super amazing articles, ideas and concepts that I stumble on and deem "FLOARBG" worthy… I totally need to find a new hashtag…that's not working…lol…

So, sit back-enjoy…And I'll totally be more consistent.

Love,

Kandi

    Back to School-Part 1

It's been a long time since I've posted anything..HECK! I've been busy traveling, saving money and just enjoying life!

Soooo, with that said...Back to our regularly scheduled programming for NOW!
As Parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents-whatever your role is we are obligated to ensure that our children have the necessary items at the start of the school year. That will entail long lists of school supplies, wardrobes and erroneous items that they may or may not use. However, we can't get out of it, we can't dodge it-it has to be done. And if you're like me-you wait until until the last minute-when all of the sale items are gone-or NOTHING is left on the shelf.

So, this year-I'm attempting to shop early and take advantage of early deals. My daughter's school unfortunately doesn't provide us with a list up front-but i know she will need paper, pencils, pens and items of the sort.

Over the next few weeks I will be documenting my finds and giving you some useful and helpful tips to make shopping for the school year easy peasy lemon squeezy!

    Stay Tuned!!

    Rumour Has IT.....

........Four Words...."Don't Sleep on JC Penney." They have really stepped their game up! I've been shopping for my daughter and my career wear at JCP for years! I went in there this past weekend and racked up on some amazing deals. The quality of clothing is great, the service is good, but the SALES are A-MA-ZING!

I have a growing daughter that I have to purchase a new wardrobe for with each change of season-and that can be expensive. So, choosing to shop at JCP or any other major department store I look for inexpensive,  quality and trendy pieces that will survive the wash and summer vacation.

Here's a sample...and Yes, I'm BUYING this DRESS from JCP...

Most major department stores will have an e-mail or text promo campaign that you can sign up for-it's a great way to receive promo's and coupons while on the GO.

Here's a few to get you started:

          • Macy's:
          • jcpenney.com -->Navigate to the bottom of the page "Get Connected" and from there you can sign up for e-mail or text alerts.

Looking for ways to save for your family this Spring/Summer Season-Try these departments on for size.

    1. JC Penney-
    2. Target
    3. Macy's
    4. Nordstrom Rack
    5. Marshall's
    6. TJ Maxx
    7. Children's Place

For the Super Fashionista  on a budget.

    1. Shopbop.com (High End Designers for the LOW)
    2. Modcloth.com (Retro Style with a modern flare)
    3. Shoxie.com (Ultra Modern, Hip and Fab)

Shopping Tip of the Week:  Finding the perfect outfit or pieces can be a daunting task if you have a special event or vacation to shop for. Don't Panic! If you have an idea or a vision of what you want your outfit to look like-take pics with your smartphone, screenshots or clip them out of magazines. Start early-last minute shopping can be very frustrating and tiresome. Just like making a list with grocery shopping-Make a list for apparel shopping. List out the stores you want to scope out, colors, patters, accessories, ect. Patience, budget and knowing what you want are critical in a healthy, stress free shopping experience.
